I live by this quote, most fulfilled when I am creating something I can be proud of. I love seeing the results of much determination, passion and skill in the product that grew from a single thought, to become reality.
Growing up around my father’s mechanical workshop meant I was always fixing things or making my own projects from a very young age. After a bachelor in Industrial Design and various positions as an industrial designer I found myself making my own lamp designs using the laser cutter and routers at work. I went on to learn a lot more about lighting at Mance Design where I worked for a few years on the custom designed jobs. Then while living in Denmark for a year, I worked at Lego headquarters as a concept designer and for Riis Retail designing furniture and lighting for fashion shops around Europe. After another year of traveling I returned home to Melbourne and completed a small business management course in order to fulfill my dream of running my own business - conceptualizing and crafting my own designs.

Dear Daniel, your lights have exceeded expectations! They suit the spaces so well and are just perfect for the overall design of this house. The kitchen "boat" shaped pendant is my favourite - it gives perfect amount of light and again just sits perfectly in the overall scheme of things. The two small pendants are brilliant in the hallway, and the two large round pendants are great in the bedroom and over the dining table - but we may change the globe in the bedroom as there is not quite enough light in such a big space. To whom it may concern I met Daniel over 2 years ago while searching for designer objects for a cafe i owned in South Wharf. I was initially taken by the altruistic quality that came from this designers belief that sustainability can be a part of everything we do and in everything we live with - That included Daniels lamps & other objects he builds. I was also very impressed with his design flair and particularly taken by the amazing design of the lamps so impressed was I that I ordered 5 in total - over a period of 12 months and for different applications. Having had the opportunity to work with Daniel I realised that he was an accomplished industrial designer as well as a lamp maker, sustainability practitioner, and basically an all round great guy. - this led to further collaborations which saw Daniel designing a number of eclectic and practical objects which to this day we are still working together on. Daniel is a thoroughly reliable guy who when he says he will deliver a job or a design n a certain day you set a clock to it being done. I cannot be more praising because it may sound like he is paying me, but I can sincerely say Daniel is meticulous and supremely capable designer and a very good person. I was really drawn to the OKO floor lamp due to its simplicity and the fact that I hadn't seen anything else on the market that I really loved. It has great presence in a room and I have had so many compliments from people since I bought it! The versatility of being able to tilt it to suit what kind of light you want is great and although I went for a black base, the fact that you can customise to any colour I think is a really big plus for designers. As a designer, I am always keen to support locally designed and made products and look forward to seeing what else comes out of Giffin Design in the future! Nina Provan
